A public event was held on November 15, 2018 to address the challenges of the EU’s long-term carbon reduction strategy and the transition to a low carbon economy. This event features a panel of distinguished Chinese and European experts and government representatives who share insights on the future of emissions trading in China and the EU. Ms. Vicky Pollard, First Counsellor - Environment and Climate of EU delegation gave an introduction on EU ETS reform and future challenges. DDG Jiang Zhaoli attended and delivered opening remarks on behalf of Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE).

The European Commission is starting to consider its long-term strategy up to 2050 and is looking at cost-efficient ways to make the European economy compatible with a low carbon economy. The Commission will adopt its new strategy based on the 2011 Roadmap at the end of November. The EU ETS is thought to also play a key role in the new strategy.
