The Capacity building training of ecological environment system and key emission enterprises in Hainan Province was held on 6th – 7th August 2020 in Sanya. It aims to enable the Ecology and Environment Bureaus within Hainan Province much more familiar with day-to-day tasks of ETS and to prepare and participate well in China’s nationwide ETS and provide related knowledges & experiences in terms of regional low carbon development.

The Director of the Department of climate change, science, technology and finance, Hainan Ecological Environment Department and representative of EU-China Emissions Trading System (ETS) gave opening speeches. Experts from National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC), Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange, Hubei Emission Exchange, Guangdong Energy Group Co., LTD, International Emissions Trading Association, Hainan Academy of Environmental Sciences, and SinoCarbon were invited to give lectures and expressed their professional opinions on China’s Response to Climate Change, Carbon Trading Mechanism, Construction of National Carbon Market, etc. About 130 governmental & industry representatives attended this training.

After then, ETS project also held three online / onsite training activities with the same theme in Tibet, Inner Mongolia, and Qinghai. Government representatives from the three regions delivered opening speeches for their respective training activities, introducing local initiatives and deployment arrangements to address climate change. The four training activities covered about 600 participants from eco-environmental system and emission enterprises.
